Golf program concludes fall season

Both men’s and women’s golf programs ended their fall season in the final week of October.

The Trevecca Women’s Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. was the final tournament the women’s team participated in. For the first time all season, the Flyers were unable to pull out a spot in the top three, finishing the tournament in sixth place.

After the first day of play, the team was in sixth place with a score of 325.

Leading the Flyers was senior Rachel Sweeny who was tied for 13th place, swinging just 77 strokes, five above par. Sophomore Madison Hill also had a good first day with 80 strokes, leaving her tied for 26th at the end of day one.

Day two had the Flyers scoring 324 and finishing the tournament with a final score of 649.

Hill had another great day and ended up placing the highest for the Flyers, finishing with 157. She finished out the tournament tied for 21st place. Sweeny dropped to 28th place after ending with a score 162.

The Flyers will pick up play in 2017 at the Northwood Invitational in Kentucky.

As for the men’s team, their fall season concluded at the Matt Dyas Invitational in Carrollton, Ga. where they tied for 7th place.

The men finished day one in sixth place after scoring 596. Leading the Flyers after day one was junior Jack Korzon who added 148, 71 strokes in the first round and 77 in the second. Tied with Korzon was junior Trent Smith who scored 77-71.

The Flyers finished out the tournament on day two, ending with a total score of 902 for all three rounds.

Korzon lead the team by adding just 75 more strokes to his score, ending his play with a total of 223. This had him tied for 21st in the tournament. Junior Austin Buente finished tied for 31st with 227 strokes. Smith fell back and finished the tournament with 229 and tied for 37th.

The men are finished for the fall and will take the course again in March for the Saginaw Valley State University Spring Invitational.
