Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams at Lewis University are starting off their seasons strong with high rankings from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) and fighting against some great competition in their home Flyers/Flames Challenge held at Lewis on Nov. 3.

The women’s team beat out four of the six teams at the race, including University of Illinois Chicago and Chicago State.

Five of the Flyers finished within the top 25, being lead by sophomore Abby Tripp with a time of 15:23.2, placing Tripp fourth overall. Other top 25 finishers were sophomores Megan Shaffer (6) and Ashley Lafayette (16), junior Molly Ogren (20) and senior Abby Dodis (25).

Men’s cross country also had a great meet, placing higher than three of the six teams in the competition. Junior Andrew Timmons was the top finisher for the Flyers, completing the race in 20:02.1 and placing in the top 25 overall. junior Jacob Timmons also squeezed right into the top 25, coming in at 24th with a time of 20:07.6.

Lewis Flyers cross country heads to Notre Dame and Warrenville, Ill. to compete in two more meets during the month of September.
